Please take 2 seconds to do this....If you know anyone who has had a Mastectomy, you may know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain afterwards. A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue. Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an outpatient procedure. Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the hospital for 2 days afte surgery. There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act which will require insurance companies to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients undergoing a mastectomy. It's about eliminating the 'drive-through' Mastectomy where women are forced to go home just a few hours after surgery, against the wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.Lifetime Television has put this bill on their web page with a petition drive to show support. Last year over, half the House signed on. PLEASE!! Sign the petition by clicking on the web site below. You need not give more than your, name, state, and zip code. http://www.lifetimetv.com/breastcancer/petition/signpetition.php.This takes about 2 seconds. PLEASE PASS THIS ON to your friends and family, and on behalf of all women, THANK YOU!

Tick Removal

Summer is here and the ticks are showing their heads... Here is a good way to get those disgusting ticks off you, your children, and/or your pets. Apply a glob of liquid soap to a cotton ball. Cover the tick with the soap-soaked cotton ball and swab it for a few seconds (15-20). The tick will come out on its own and be stuck to the cotton ball when you lift it away. This is great because it works in those places where it's some times difficult to get to with tweezers: between toes, in the middle of a head full of dark hair, etc.Goodluck ;-)

Protective steps to prevent Lyme disease:
Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants tucked into socks; ticks cannot bite through clothing but they can crawl under it.
Wear light colored clothing so ticks can be easily seen and removed before making contact with skin.
Use a tick repellent on clothing and exposed skin. Be sure to follow label instructions.
Walk in the center of trails to avoid contact with overgrown grass and brush on the edge of paths where ticks are most often found.
Check yourself, family members and pets routinely for ticks after coming in from the outdoors.
The safest way to remove an attached tick is to use clean tweezers. Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and gently, but firmly, pull straight out.
Most cases of Lyme disease can be treated successfully with antibiotics, especially if treatment is started early. Some people may develop symptoms such as arthritis, muscle and joint pain, or fatigue. Lyme disease has been called the "Great Imitator" since the symptoms mimic many other illnesses. If you have any of the symptoms listed below, consult your physician:
An expanding circular rash that may look like a red bulls-eye. The rash does not occur in all cases of Lyme disease.
Fever and chills
Joint and muscle pain
Headache
Fatigue
Swollen lymph nodes
To reduce the number of ticks around your house, try the following suggestions:
Keep grass mowed.
Stack wood neatly and in dry areas.
Trim tree branches and shrubs around the edge of the lawn to let in more sunlight, Ticks die quickly in sunny, dry environments.
Keep the ground under bird feeders clean.
Keep playground equipment, decks and patios away from yard edges and trees. Create a three-foot wide woodchip barrier between the edge of your yard and wooded areas.
Consider using a pesticide in your yard. Consult with a professional and follow label directions.
